The Banff Gondola Sulphur Mountain Boardwalk hike is at a high altitude, starting at the summit of Sulphur Mountain, where the Banff Gondola upper terminal is located. The summit's elevation is approximately 2,281 meters (7,486 feet) above sea level.

The boardwalk itself runs along the ridge of Sulphur mountain, with only minor elevation changes. The highest point along the boardwalk is at the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station, which is also at an altitude of around 2,283 meters (7,490 feet).

While the altitude is quite high, the boardwalk is relatively easy to walk, as it is mostly flat with some stairs. Gondola visitors should still be mindful of the effects of altitude, especially if they are not accustomed to high elevations.

The gondola ride itself was fun, but what really gives you your money's worth is the boardwalk/visitor’s center at the top. The views from the boardwalk were incredible. The visitors center has great background info and interactive exhibits. The outdoor observation deck has giant pop-up spheres that can be used to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea from the cafe outdoors - or for respite from the chilly wind. Could easily spend all day at the top.
